1944 – The Club School is launched

Migros begins offering language courses in spring 1944. Those interested in learning a new language can take classes in English, French, Italian, Russian or Spanish in small groups and at an unbeatably low price of five francs per month. The concept is a runaway success, surpassing all expectations – instead of 200 registrations, 1,400 people sign up. From 1948, courses are held under the Club School name and the range of classes on offer is gradually expanded to include fencing, painting, beauty care, dancing and plant care. Nowadays, more than half of Migros Culture Percentage funds flow into the Migros Club School, which has become Switzerland’s largest provider of adult education.
