Swan Lake

«Swan Lake Reloaded»: Swiss première at the Maag Halle in Zurich

«Swan Lake» is synonymous with classical dance these days. Now, 136 years after its première in Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre, Tchaikovsky's famous ballet has been shifted to the present: the classic fairytale meets modern and street dance elements in Fredrik Rydman's reinterpretation. Instead of pink tutus there are drug-addicted swans with white wigs, over-the-knee leather boots and fluffy fur coats. The sinister Baron Rothbart is not a magician, but a pimp who drives the swan princess Odette to heroin addiction. «Swan Lake Reloaded» intends to merge high culture and entertainment into a contemporary, audio-visual work of art. The street dance show is guest performing from 23 April to 12 May at the Maag Halle in Zurich, supported by Migros Culture Percentage.

IntegrART 2013

IntegrART symposium 2013

IntegrART represents the commitment by the Migros Culture Percentage to extend the concept of the performing arts beyond the boundaries of the norm. IntegrART networks four local festivals, presents three international productions and organises a symposium. The 2013 IntegrART symposium is supported by Pro Helvetia, the Wildwuchs festival, the Federal Bureau for the Equality of People with Disabilities and the Corymbo Foundation and focuses on the constant availability of individuals that new technologies enable. For the first time, bodies can be shaped almost at will, natural abilities genetically fashioned, and soon it will probably also be even possible to effectively program biographies. What does this mean for the self-realisation of people, for performing artists and, in particular, for those with a disability? Tom Shakespeare, Jackie Leach Scully, James O’Shea and Cynthia Wolfensberger represent sociological, medical-scientific and ethical positions. Well-known choreographers are involved this year in the artistic aspects.

Monday 27 May 2013, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., Volkshaus Basel, Unionsaal and Galeriesaal. Participation is by invitation from Migros Culture Percentage and is free of charge. Registration before 29 April via under "Symposium".

Zum Beispiel Suberg

«Zum Beispiel Suberg» première in Nyon

The first Swiss documentary film from Migros Culture Percentage sees the light of day: «Zum Beispiel Suberg» by Simon Baumann has been selected for the international competition of the documentary film festival Visions du Réel in Nyon and will be shown to the world for the first time on 21 April 2013. Baumann won the first Migros Culture Percentage CH-Dokfilm competition with this project in 2011. The film tells the story of how the director tries to integrate himself in Suberg, a former farming village where he had once lived over 30 years ago but today no longer knows anyone. The result is a very personal film that uses Suberg as an example to show how a sleepy farming village can become an anonymous dormitory town in just a few decades.
The will film be shown at the Visions du Réel festival in Nyon on the following dates: Sunday 21 April 2013, 7 p.m., Salle Communale (première), Monday 22 April 2013, 12 p.m., Salle Communale.

Swiss film prize for «La nuit de l’ours»

This year's Swiss film prize in the category Animated Films goes to «La nuit de l’ours» by Sam and Fred Guillaume. The film, which Migros Culture Percentage supported with post-production financing, has already won numerous prizes and has now even been honoured by the Swiss Film Academy with a Quartz. «La nuit de l’ours» is a film about figures spending the night in an emergency shelter operated by a bear. The twist is that all the statements made by the fantastical creates are real: the Guillaume twins visited an emergency room in Fribourg over the course of four years and interviewed the attendees.
