the Swiss mezzo-soprano Nathalie Mittelbach was born in Basel in 1983. She completed her basic training at the Musikakademie Basel and studied singing under Prof. Hans-Joachim Beyer and Prof. Dr. Edith Wiens. In summer 2009, she passed her artistic singing diploma with distinction; at present, she is studying at the Juilliard School in New York in the master class under Dr. Edith Wiens. In summer 2011, she will complete her Meisterklassenpodium in Germany.
Mittelbach is using the current year of study in New York to deepen her knowledge in various fields and is working with excellent musical professionals and famous musicians including Marilyn Horne, Brian Zeger, Margo Garrett, Malcolm Martineau, Coradina Caporello, and Kathryn La Bouff.
Mittelbach is scholarship holder of the Yehudi Menuhin Organisation Live Music Now.
Artistic activities:
in cooperation with various orchestras and ensembles such as the Collegium Musicum Lucerne, the Barockorchester Capriccio Basel and the Duisburger Philharmonikern, Nathalie Mittelbach is developing an extensive concert repertoire with Bach’s Magnificat and Christmas Oratorio, Mozart’s Mass in C minor and Requiem, Handel’s Messias and Telemann’s St. Matthew Passion.
The lyrical mezzo-soprano has gained opera experience in various roles, including Cherubino and Marcellina in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, as Graf Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss, as Hänsel in Humperdincks Hänsel und Gretel, and as Amore in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea. Nathalie Mittelbachs particular passion is song and she has given many song recitals in Münstersaal, Basel, in the Schumannhaus, Leipzig and in the Festsaal in Ingolstadt. She is carrying out further projects together with Christian Gerhaher and Helmut Deutsch.
